What is best practice in procurement?

One thing is for sure, there will be no shortage of opinions! The way that we try to separate fact from opinion is to base our assessment upon more than one hundred comprehensive assessments of procurement operation and management that we have undertaken in organisations all over the World.

We have benchmarked the procurement function in large and small orgnanisations, public and private sector, including many blue chip corporations. We can make sectoral comparisons, so that we can compare one telecommunications company with other telcos, or with the best in that country, or the best that we have encountered anywhere. So if we say "this is best known practice" it means we are basing our assessment on a genuine benchmark of what is good practice, not some exaggerated marketing claim.

We do not benchmark prices; we cannot tell you if the price that you paid is the lowest price in the World. What use is that ?

We can tell you if the management of the procurement function is optimising the potential contribution to your business. And we can pinpoint what needs changing, and suggest how you might manage the change to seize the latent value.
